Everyone’s a winner at RedBalloon!

Hoorah, Lets Celebrate, this year (2009) we have been accredited as 1 of 6 in the Hewitt Best Employer Awards for Australia and New Zealand. Yeah!

We were trumped for the top title by a trio of IT companies, one of which was the global behemoth Microsoft. Not bad for a company of 50 Ballooners from Pyrmont.

Naomi, Ballooner in Chief had this to say:

“Recognition for us is acknowledging people based on their values and who they are, not necessarily what they do. Some might have massive projects and others might be on the phone with customers every day; they’re all equal. We don’t have an elite culture any way… but we do have a performance culture and that comes from managers and leaders knowing who their people are and what they want to achieve personally.”

Our Accreditation Award was earned form the top down and one of the main drivers of this was our Employee Experience Manager, Megan. I asked Megan what this Award meant to her:

“It is such an honour to be accredited by Hewitt as Best Employer! Our high engagement score of 90% is driven by every team member at RedBalloon. We believe in our brand and are all passionate about being a RedBallooner. The exciting part now is to ensure we continually innovate our employee experience!”

Well said, Megan.

I also canvassed opinion from a few of my colleagues and I think Taran, the 2IC from our Customer Experience team summed it up nicely:

“What an immense honour to be recognized as a leader in staff happiness (as well as few other things). A lot of the work we do at RedBalloon is about helping other companies with reward and recognition for their employees, so to be on the list of the top people who do it well, is great. We practice what we preach! “

On a personal note, I am not surprised that we have been recognised in this way. I have worked in several companies big and small over the years and never before have I been somewhere where everyone is pulling in the same direction to achieve common goals. And this is not because there is a whip hanging over us, but because we all genuinely want RedBalloon to succeed. We have been engaged!

    Congratulations on the nomination. It doesn;t suprise me a all. I remember meeting a red ballon executive at a marketing event in sydney and I was impressed by their passion for your brand – it was contagious! Love to hear more about what makes you guys a special place to work at, including employee testimonials. Gotta be some great online marketing oppotunities in there for you to write articles on employee management.
