Gift of Thanks winner review, The Reed Family

One of the winners of our Gift of Thanks competition was the Reed family. Katherine and Aaron shared the story of their son Noah who was born with a severe brain injury, thanking their wonderful friends and family for all the support since Noah was born almost 12 months ago. In an act of generosity, Katherine and Aaron decided to use their $500 prize to take their whole family on a RedBalloon experience. What a wonderful way to bring the Gift of Thanks to life.

Here, Katherine and Aaron share their story and tell us all about the fun they had during their Gippsland Limousine Wine Tour for 10.

In November 2010 our son Noah was born with a very severe brain injury called Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. As a result Noah will have severe Cerebral Palsy and other medical issues. Noah’s condition is very serious and looking after him is extremely hard and heartbreaking.  This has severely impacted the quality of our life, and that of our family.

After Noah was born our family banded together to climb Mount Kinabalu for Noah, fundraising a huge amount to help us with Noah’s care. And on July 15th this year they made it to the top of the highest mountain in South-East Asia. We are eternally grateful to them, so when I heard about the RedBalloon Gift of Thanks competition I knew I had to enter our family‘s story. We received a lot of support through Noahs Ark (our Facebook Page for Noah) and we were so excited when we found out the news… We had won a $500 RedBalloon experience!

We decided to choose an experience that our families and us, along with a few close friends, could enjoy while we were visiting them in Melbourne. We chose the Gippsland Limousine Wine Tour for 10. Our day started with being picked up in a gorgeous Chrysler Stretch Limo. We felt like celebrities! We sipped on champagne while we explored the limo and drove to our first destination.

Our first visit was to Brandy Creek Winery. The views were so relaxing. We enjoyed tasting some delicious wine , liqueurs and a few nibbles. Then it was off to our next stop. Parnassus Winery was very entertaining. The scenery here was breath taking. We could even see a bit of snow on Mount Baw Baw.  We were treated to some more wine tastings and then had a gorgeous morning tea of freshly baked croissants and homemade orange mascarpone and jams.

Our last stop was to Wild Dog Winery, where we had a tasty lunch, a tour of the winery and of course a few more wine tastings! We even ducked over for a quick visit to the Wild Dog Pub (affectionately known as The Dog House to enjoy a cold beer). Then it was back in our flashy limo to enjoy the ride back to Melbourne, when we put the Limos sound system to the test. Our chauffer didn’t complain about our singing once!

We had such a relaxing, high-spirited, decadent experience. Just what we needed to take our minds off things for the day. We were so happy to say thanks to our wonderful, supportive family.  So thank you RedBalloon for making our day.

Love from Katherine, Aaron and the rest of the Reed Family xx
