Five Star Wine Tour!

Shae’s Review of an amazing wine tasting in the Margaret River…

Last month my husband and I went to WA for our anniversary and what better way to celebrate than a Full Day Wine Tasting tour In the Margaret River. Nothing says I love you like wine, cheese and chocolate!

Our tour guide, Andrew, collected us from our accommodation at 10am and we headed to the first winery, Stella Bella. We sampled a wide range of wines and were taught the correct way of tasting and appreciating the wine…..smell, swirl, smell again, then taste….I was on my way to becoming a wine connoisseur.

We then went to the second winery, The Leeuwin Estate. After tasting some more amazing wines, we had a tour of the winery which is famous for its concerts and events. (Getting slightly tipsy at this stage.) It was then time for The Voyager Estate where we started with a seated private wine tasting where each wine was described in detail and it was then time for lunch in The Voyager’s restaurant.

Bread with olive oil and dukka to start, a main with a glass of wine followed by tea and coffee= delicious with a capital D. After lunch a new group joined us for the second half of the tour and boy, did they have a lot of catching up to do! We headed to the fourth winery of the day, The Watershed.

While tasting the wine we enjoyed the stunning views of the vineyards. After this it was back in the mini bus as we headed to our next stop. During the drive we were treated to a gourmet cheese platter.

More wine was tasted at Vasse Felix and then Moss Brothers afterwards where we sampled a 2010 Grenache straight from the barrel. I know what you’re thinking, wow that was a lot of wineries! But the great thing about this tour is that each winery is unique and has something different to offer.

Margaret River Chocolate Company

The fun hasn’t ended yet! We then made our way to the Margaret River chocolate company: a chocoholics paradise. As soon as you walk in, there are chocolates as far as the eye can see. From giant freckles to chocolate buttons, there really is something for everyone. My personal favourite was the rocky road.

The final stop of the day was at the Margaret River Dairy Company for some delicious cheese tasting before heading back to our accommodation. This tour was a great way to see all the wonderful things Margaret River has to offer.

If you love fine food, fine wine and want to have a 5-star experience, this is the tour for you!
