Come Fly Away with Me!

Daynia tells of her experience flying over Sydney

I’ve always had a fascination with a certain aspect of nature that I never often get the chance to explore and see in a different perspective – the sky. When I had thought about the opportunity of going on a helicopter flight, I had gotten a tad excited as this would mean I would be able to look at everything in a new light!

I had arrived on the day of the flight to crystal clear blue skies, minimal wind and a feeling of excitement coupled with a slight sense of wonder – what would things look like from up above? I had also never been so close to a helicopter before, so I was interested to see what the helicopter would look like inside and out (and how everything would appear from the inside out!)

We had met up with our pilot who gave us a quick run through of what to expect and also a quick (but very detailed!) safety briefing before it was time to go airborne! I could feel the slight nerves and excitement building very fast and before I knew it we were strapped in and ready to fly.

I was a bit nervous about the lift off as I wasn’t sure what to expect – however the lift off went very smoothly and I was seeing everything around me in a way that I had never seen before. I had a massive sense of euphoria as we were flying over Greater Sydney – the sky was so clear I was able to see all they way to Newcastle and the Blue Mountains!

The Pilot would explain through our headsets all the different places we were flying over and a little history about the surrounding areas as well. Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and Botany Bay; it was amazing to be able to be above everything and appreciate the sights in all their glory!

But too soon, it was time to make our inevitable landing back into the Hangar and put our feet back on the ground. After making a gentle landing I was ecstatic with everything that I had seen. I was able to see Sydney in its everlasting beauty and able to fulfil a dream that I had always had as a child – a chance to explore the sky and see everything from above. As the saying goes – the sky is the limit!
