High Octane Experience

A couple of weekends ago – while my husband was at home vacuuming and doing the grocery shop – I was a guest of Microsoft Office 365  at the Tasmanian round of V8 Supercars. It was a weekend filled with octane fumes, snarling V8s, dusty crashes and some cool behind the scenes access to the cars, drivers and the well-oiled machine that is the V8s.

I’m a rev-head from way back, and actually started my career under the haze of petrol fumes reporting on the Targa Tasmania tarmac rally - so Microsoft didn’t have to ask twice before I was on a plane back to my home state for a few days.

(RedBalloon Resident petrol-head Jay was more than a little jealous that I was heading to the big race).

Fire your engines!

When we arrived at the track on Saturday we were treated to a corporate box above the RedBull garage – I could almost reach out and touch Lowndesy…

Lowndesy looking serious

…as well as a tour of the garages, a pit lane and grid walk and a session on how the V8s are using Cloud technology to keep their transient workforce connected. It really was a very impressive operation and I felt incredibly spoiled to be so close to the action.

I had to hold myself back from giving Lowndesy some words of advice before the race started. Maybe that's why he crashed on the opening lap...

A busy day at the track
