Skydiving: Jump out of a plane

Originally published on Seven Cherubs

I have always wanted to go Skydiving. I have been trying to go since I was 18 years old. Every time I would book myself in, rock up to suit up, the wind would change and it would be cancelled. Finally! I have done it! I have taken the jump out of a plane. I was beyond excited!!

I took the whole family with me to see the big jump. I booked myself in through RedBalloon for a tandem skydiving experience with Jump the Beach here in Brisbane for a jump at 14,000 feet and was deliriously excited about having a skydive on a perfect sunny day and to finish with a beach landing. It was an easy process doing the booking, the challenge was to get the weather to co-operate with my big plans!

Trying to describe what it is like to go Skydiving is a difficult task. I was a little nervous at the start because after all, I am the mum to seven wonderful cherubs and I knew that this was a risk I was taking and that something might go wrong. I was torn between wanting to keep my feet on the ground and playing it safe and wanting to experience a dream of mine and of showing my children how to go for it and to live life. I decided to go with the later option and I am so glad I did!

It is a surreal experience to be sitting on the edge of a plane at 14,000 feet. The view is breathtaking, the air is fresh, the wind is incredible and the desire to scream is intense! One moment you are sitting uncomfortably with your legs hanging underneath you out into the atmosphere and next minute you are free falling and feeling as free as a bird!

The only surprise I had when we first fell out of the plane was how powerful the wind pressure was against my skin, my body and my breathing! It was amazing and the crazy pictures are a testament to that! I absolutely loved the whole skydiving experience. My poor instructor was trying to talk to me through the experience and I was in my own zone…taking it all in. The view of the city was sensational, there were no obstacles in our way, the weather was perfect and I could have hung there for hours!

We experienced free falling for a minute and I was taking in so much scenery and sights that I completely forgot I was supposed to be thinking of opening a parachute! When I was suddenly launched upwards I remembered…that’s right…I need a parachute to survive! Ha ha! Instead of using my words…I am going to let the pictures tell the story!

If that is not enough…I even have a short video of my Skydiving experience.
Hilarious and scary at the same time!

{I did not pick the music for this video. Just saying!}

I am so glad I have the pictures and video as a reminder. Did you see my little freak out moment…Oh! My Goodness! I often find myself having moments where I can’t still believe I actually did it. I jumped out of a plane! So. Much. Fun. If you ever get the chance…go for it! Was a blast! Thank you RedBalloon!
